Home 5 About Our Horticulturalist: Siedeh Rezaei-Kamalabad

For the past 14 years, Siedeh Rezaei-Kamalabad has spent her life working and learning of the ways of the land, the plants, and the climate, they dance within. In 2008, the born and raised city girl, traveled to the forests of Massachusetts to live at an off the grid community where she began to learn about farming, native species, sustainability, permaculture and ecosystem rehabilitation.

The instinctual knowledge of horticultural was thickly wrapped about the roots of who she was, unknowing yet of who she would become. Flowing through her veins, her grandfather, who had been the head Gardner for the Shah of Iran; her uncles who had built successful landscaping businesses, propagating and finding creative beautiful solutions to transforming the arid land of Iran. A family legacy built on the artistic responsibility of nurturing the land in being both pleasing to the eyes and beneficial for the sustainability of the environment for all the inhabitants.

The adventure inspired her to return to school to pursue a degree in biology with a focus on plant physiology and genetics. Many moons later and after many adventures in the different approaches to the science of soil, horticulture, farming and landcare, she set out to start her own business, The Alternative Horticulturalist. After having worked for many landscape businesses of varying degrees of horticultural know how, good and bad business practices, and questionable ethical treatment of land and clients, she dreamed of empowering people to better care for their gardens in a more sustainable, efficient, low cost and low maintenance way.

It has been five years since we began building our business. Each year, with the shifting culture and climate, we continue to find ways to rehabilitate and enhance gardens from the Greater Boston Area to the Berkshire. We have developed growing dynamic relationships with the gardens and clients ,we have cared for during our five seasons of operations. We have survived through droughts, flooding and pandemics, continuing to grow and bloom and seed the potentials for next years growth. Siedeh has a magical way of knowing how to nurture and empower both the gardens and her clients.
Give us a call and have her come out to visit your paradise to be! Let’s grow and garden together this year!
